Fabris Rapier and Partisan Workshops, Sat. March 24

Next Saturday we will be holding two free workshops at Allied Gardens Park.

The Unusual Postures of Fabris

At 1 pm, the first workshop will be a look at the unusual postures offered by Fabris, the early 17th century fencing master. We’ll explore the differences between his normal and “properly formed” postures.

Introduction to the Partisan

At 3 pm we’ll put down the rapiers and pick up partisans, the sword-spear used by the elite. In the 16th century this was a prestige weapon with links back to the ancient hero’s of Italy’s founding in the aftermath of the Trojan War.

Partisan vs Rapier?

Yes, of course we’re going to examine that classic match-up.

  1. Hello , what are the range of age for this and next workshops?
My 9yo has been practice Hema with his father, he wants to be more involved and learn more, do you also have a current school?
    Thank you.

    1. Officially we don’t have an age requirement so long as a parent is present at all times. Nine is a bit young for us, so I would be hesitant to allow the child to drill with other adults. However, I have no problem with him watching the drills and then performing them with his father (so long as he has the correct safety equipment).

There are no fees today, but both of them will need to join the HEMA Alliance. You’ll find a link on our schedule page: https://scholarsofalcala.org/schedule/

      Jonathan.
