Scholars of Alcala offers a complete training program for Alfred Hutton‘s seminal book on the sabre, Cold Steel. Hutton was an early HEMA enthusiast, combining the 19th century sport and military fencing of his time with historic manuals from the 16th and 18th centuries.
Study Guides and Books
Prior experience is recommended. Hutton’s text assumes that you have familiarity with the French foil, but that’s mostly an issue of terminology.
All fencers will be provided with a copy of Hutton’s Cold Steel manual. It is written in late 19th century English, making it one of the most accessible sources offered by our school.
