Alcala is wrapping up our Augsburg dagger class next week. It’s been a lot of fun, but people are itching to get back into Meyer rapier. So as a gift to the community, we’d like to present all of the notes we took over the last couple of months.
This drill book includes all of the plays from the Bauman Fechtbuch (i.e. Codex Wallerstein) and Rast Fechtbuch. It also includes speculative plays inspired by the Berlin Picture Book. For those, we started with the Bauman/Rast play, then modified it to fit the illustration.
While we’ve been working with Codex Wallerstein on and off for many years, this was our first time going through the Rast plays. So if you have any insights on either, we’d be happy to hear them.
We did have to invent some terminology such as Inside Kron/Outside Kron. These parries is so important that not having a name for them was causing problems in class. Likewise, the names of the plays were invented just to make it easier to find what we’re looking for.
Speaking of which, in the back of the book you’ll find an index of all of the plays, organized by technique.
